The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has announced the results of the Asian Cup Dream XI voting, which has been open to fans since July. The results are based on the players who received the most votes in each position, as well as the selection of a panel of Asian soccer experts to create the final squad.
Representing South Korea is Ulsan Hyundai’s Hong Myung-bo at central defense. Hong has 137 caps for the club. He scored 10 goals as a defender. Hong captained South Korea at the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Korea-Japan, where he led the team to a fourth-place finish.
Jeonbuk Hyundai’s technical director Park Ji-sung was also recognized. Park has scored 13 goals in 100 appearances for South Korea. Along with head coach Hong Myung-bo, Park helped South Korea reach the 2002 World Cup quarterfinals, and at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, Park captained the team to the first round of 16 away from home.
The list also includes current South Korean soccer star Son Heung-min. Son has 111 caps for his country. He currently ranks third on South Korea’s all-time list of top A-match scorers with 37 goals. He has made history with South Korea, including finishing as runner-up at the 2015 AFC Asian Cup and reaching the round of 16 at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Japan, meanwhile, has the most selections (four), with Yuto Nagatomo and Keisuke Honda among those honored.
