This October, Seoul will host the 2023 Seoul EOU Cup U-18 International Youth Football Tournament (Seoul EOU Cup) to celebrate global peace and the environment. The U-18 men’s national teams of South Korea, Ukraine, Vietnam, and Morocco will compete in three matches at Mokdong Sports Complex on the 10th, 12th, and 15th. The tournament name EOU stands for ‘EARTH ON US’. ‘ALL LIFE ON EARTH DEPENDS ON US’ is the slogan. Through soccer, the tournament aims to promote the importance of a sustainable planet. The participating countries have experienced or are currently experiencing the pain of division and war. Ukraine’s age-group national team has been struggling to bring its players together to train in the aftermath of the war. The Ukrainian squad consists of around 30 players. The plan is to use the tournament to prepare for the U-19 Euro 2024 qualifiers in November. The 2005-born team is drawn in Group 7 with Slovakia, Kosovo, and Malta. Ukraine won the 2019 U-20 World Cup in Poland, defeating South Korea 3-1 in the final. The Ukraine A team is ranked 24th in the Fifa rankings.
The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) is a partner of the Seoul EOU Cup. The tournament will include public transportation for spectators, the use of Tumblr, and an environmental donation campaign. The tournament is organized by the Korea Sports Agents Association, hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, and sponsored by Seoul Metropolitan Government and Shinhan Bank. Kim Eun-joong, former head coach of the Korea Under-20 National Soccer Team, will serve as an ambassador.
