The Doosan Bears have made a strong push for third place. They now face NC in Changwon.
Doosan Bears won 3-1 against the Samsung Lions of the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League at Samsung Lions Park in Daegu on April 22. With the win, Doosan improved to 66 wins, 58 losses, and one draw, maintaining a 2.5-game lead over third-place NC.
Doosan will now play the inevitable two-game series against NC at NC Park in Changwon on March 23-24. While they can’t mathematically overturn the standings in this series, they meet NC in a position to put enough pressure on them.
Doosan capitalized on an error in the top of the second inning. Yang hit a grounder to the third baseman, but the throwing error allowed the runner to score. Yang Seok-hwan grounded out to third to load the bases, but Kim Jae-hwan singled to right to put runners on first and third, and Kang Seung-ho hit a sacrifice fly to left field to take the lead.
In the third inning, Mulberry went ahead. Two batters later, Kim Jae-ho drew a walk, Rojas doubled to put runners on second and third, and Yang Yang-ji hit a two-run double to right-center field to make it 3-0.
In the fifth and sixth innings, Lee Young-ha pitched 1⅔ scoreless innings of perfect relief, allowing no runs on four hits and four walks with two strikeouts.

Kim Sung-yoon then drew a walk and was hit by a pitch to put runners on second and third. However, Koo Ja-rook’s grounder to the first baseman threw out the third baseman and Oh Jae-il’s grounder to the pitcher left Kang Min-ho stranded at second base.
In the end, Samsung could not score any more runs. Doosan had the bases loaded in the seventh inning, but Kim Myung-shin and Chung Chul-won kept the game close.
Yang-ji, the “15.2 billion catcher,” who hit a two-run double on the day, is batting .335 (14-for-40) with four home runs and 10 RBIs in his last 10 games. With Yang leading the way, Doosan will be aiming for the NC.
