Ivan Perisic’s latest update has been released.
Transfer market pundit Fabrizio Romano shared a photo of Perisic on social media on Monday (Aug. 28) after he underwent surgery. “Perisic will now begin the recovery process, which is expected to take five to six months,” Romano wrote, noting that Perisic is in a cast on his right knee and on crutches.
Perisic, now 34, joined Inter Milan in 2015 after leaving Wolfsburg. He spent time on loan at Bayern Munich before returning to Inter in the 2020-21 season. Antonio Conte was in charge of the team at the time. Conte started using Perisic as a left wing-back.
At first, Perisic looked awkward, but as he adapted to the position with each game, his performances improved in the second half of the season. He scored four goals and provided four assists in 32 Serie A appearances, helping Inter Milan win the league title.
Perisic joined Tottenham as a free agent last year. Conte was keen to add the experienced Perisic to his squad as he has a good understanding of his tactical style. He quickly established himself in the first team, scoring one goal and providing eight assists in 34 Premier League (PL) games last season. He also had the most assists in the team, which isn’t bad.
However, he’s not exactly a sure thing. He often found himself overlapping with Son Heung-min, and as he approached his mid-30s, the mobility required in the wing-back position was criticized. When Conte left the club during the season, Perisic’s position was naturally jeopardized. There were rumors of a transfer this summer.
Specific teams have been mentioned. In early July, Italian transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio wrote: “Perisic is now close to returning to Croatia. His destination is Hajduk Split. He is expected to terminate his contract with Tottenham.” Hajduk is a Croatian club where Perisic played as a youth player.
But there was no transfer. The season started, and Perisic stayed. Perisic was given consistent chances in the first five games of the season, but all of them came as a substitute. New coach Enze Postecoglou was a coach who used a back four. This eliminated Perisic’s options as a wing-back and he has been used as a wing-forward since the start of the season.카지노
Then came the injury blow. “Perisic has suffered an injury to his right anterior cruciate ligament. The injury occurred in a non-contact situation during training and will undergo surgery. He will then begin rehabilitation and is expected to miss the remainder of the season.”
For Tottenham, Perisic is not a key resource. He’s fully replaceable. Because of this, it has been argued that he may have actually played his farewell game. Perisic was initially contracted until next summer. There have been rumors of his retirement, but that’s unlikely.
