South Korea’s Hye Jin Choi is in the middle of the pack after the first day of the Maybank Championship on the Women’s Professional Golf (LPGA) Tour.
Choi carded five birdies and one bogey for a 4-under 68 in the first round of the tournament at the par-72 Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club in Malaysia on Saturday.
In a tie for 16th place, Choi trailed Jasmine Suwanapura (Thailand), who has two career wins on the LPGA Tour, by five strokes.
Suvarnapura carded one eagle and seven birdies for a 9-under 63.
The first day of competition was suspended for four hours due to inclement weather before resuming.
World No. 3 Ko Jin-young shaved three strokes off her score to finish the first day in a tie for 22nd place alongside Kim Se-young, Kim Arim and Hae-ran Lee.굿모닝토토
Ko played without any major mistakes and was unfortunate to make a double bogey on the par-4 17th hole.
Ataya Thititjer (Thailand), who is competing with Kim for the lowest score, shot a 6-under-par 66 and is tied for sixth place.
She has a 69.952 stroke average through her previous events, trailing leader Hyoju Kim (69.671).
Kim did not compete in the Maybank Championship.
